My Yoga Philosophy
I believe that Yoga can be for everyone. I began practicing yoga on and off when I was about 15. I’ve practiced in studios, gyms and on my own. As I studied at It’s Yoga in Provo, UT to become a licensed yoga instructor my personal practice came to a new level and I found a new way to practice yoga, teaching.
I love teaching! I have taught teenagers in juvenile detention, adults in their home, mixed level at recreation centers and gyms, and families as a group. As I help students learn to appreciate themselves and their bodies, I grow myself.
For me yoga is a way to be physically fit and health, it is a way to find inner peace and explore my own psyche, it is also a chance to come in touch with the Divine. I find that in the quiet moments of my practice life becomes clearer and less complicated. Everyone comes to yoga for different reasons and leaves class with something they didn’t expect. I love it!
Everyone can be a “yoga person” and because there is infinite room to grow and progress in yoga, then whatever level you are at is a great place to be. As a teacher my hope is to help all people along this journey wherever they are.
Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years in many countries and in many different forms. It can include postures, breathing, meditation, nutrition and philosophy. There are sequences of postures practiced today that were written over three thousand years ago. Yoga has grown in popularity here in the US so that now yoga is taught at almost every gym and studios dedicated to the practice are in every major (and most minor) city in the country. So, what's the big deal? Why yoga?
Yoga postures build strength, flexibility, and have been shown to lower blood pressure. Breathing exercises increase lung capacity, aid in relaxation and improve concentration. Yoga is more frequently being recognized as a helpful addition to management of chronic conditions like depression, pain, insomnia and even cancer.
